Biometric – Palm Vein Technology
Introduction:
Palm vein technology is becoming more popular as it provides a high level of accuracy, also this technology is difficult to forge.
It can be implemented in a wide range of applications, its high level security makes it particularly ideal for banking applications, hospitals, clinics, schools and use in public places where hygiene is of great concern.
The palm vein sensor uses infrared light technology to read the unique vascular patterns of a user’s palm, capturing it as biometric identification data. The biometric template is then matched against the already registered users’ palm vein patterns.
Palm vein authentication technology provides a high level of accuracy with a false acceptance rate (FAR) of just 0.00008% or lower and an exceptional false rejection rate (FRR) of 0.01%.

Advantages of Palm Vein Recognition Technology :
- No Physical contact needed : The hand does not have to touch the sensor so it maintains the hygienic concerns and scanner life and scanner remains clean without degrading the performance of the sensor.
- Highly secured and accurate vein patterns is the internal structure of the body, it is impossible to create copy of someone’s biometric template. The sensor of the palm vein scanner requires the hand and blood flow to register an image.
- Matching Technology : Palm vein technology supports both 1:1 and 1:N matching.
Disadvantages of Palm Vein Recognition Technology :
- Quality of captured image may be degraded by the following factors Body Temperature,Humidity,Ambient Temperature,Uneven Distribution of heat,Heat radiation,Camera calibration and focus,Invasive Technology – not widely accepted by people.
- Expensive Technology.
- Not applicable to people who lost their palms
